San Juan Del Sur Restaurants
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, Antigua, Guatemala?
Going to spend a month at either San Juan del Sur or just studying Spanish Antigua. What place is best for me? I do not speak any Spanish (going to classes there, but very entry level). I am a 29 years old and gay. I'll live with a family host, but had to like being in a place where there are things to do in the evenings and weekends. Somewhere that is relatively safe, although I am not an idiot I know how to "be safe" and I'm not delusional. I would like to stay somewhere that has a good balance of feeling immersed in Spanish, but also a feeling of knowing that I can find a restaurant / person or two who can and will speak English with me (I do not want to feel completely alone for a month). Help! Opinions people who have traveled to both or either of these places would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I've been to both and Love 'em both expensive but for very different reasons. San Juan del Sur is more of a surfing community with a relaxed atmosphere, while the plateau is former colonial feeling very historic city. If you prefer a hard type of environment on the other, let that be your guide. Otherwise, I would choose Antigua. Especially since you are thinking of studying Spanish and must be 50 small Spanish language schools in Antigua! It is a beautiful place, * ON * holiday resorts (so you CAN hit the people who speak English). By Moreover, Guatemala or Nicaragua or accumulate gringos, so it is very easy to stay away from English speakers and into a true "immersion" thinking.
